India have embarrassed Australia captain Tim Paine following his comments made to Ravi Ashwin in the third test of the four-match series. India pulled off a stunning three-wicket win at the Gabba on Tuesday to secure a dramatic 2-1 series victory over Australia.
Rishabh Pant was the hero with the bat, striking an unbeaten 89 to lead his side home with just 18 balls of the match remaining.
Australia won the first Test of the series in December after bowling India out for their lowest-ever Test score of 36.
India bounced back by winning in Melbourne and held on for a draw in Sydney earlier this month.
Towards the end of the match at the SCG, the TV directors cut to the conversation between the players out in the middle.
“None of the IPL teams wanted you when you asked every single one of them to have you.”
Paine was clearly confident of his side’s chances of winning the series in Brisbane, having not lost a Test there since 1988.
However, his comments came back to haunt him after India completed their third-highest run chase of all time.
Ajinkya Rahane was the stand-in captain for India after Virat Kohli returned home after the first Test to attend the birth of his first child.
And Rahane was overwhelmed by his side’s performance in the post-match ceremony.
“It really means a lot to us,” Rahane said.
“I don’t know how to describe this victory but I’m really proud of all the boys who have shown character, attitude, especially after the Adelaide Test match.
“We decided we were going to fight really hard.
“We know Australia in Australia are a very dangerous team and we just wanted to give our best, not to think about results.
“As I said I don’t know how to describe this victory, I’m just proud of every single individual.”
