Tasnim, a state-run news agency, gave a clear indication of the hostility with which the Islamic republic view Mr Trump with their tweet today, which came after Mr Trump was replaced as US President by Joe Biden. The post featured a mocked of picture of a golf course with a figure resembling him about to hit a ball.
The accompanying message simply said: “Revenge is inevitable.”
Relations between Iran and the West have plummeted during Mr Trump’s time in office, especially since his decision to pull the US out of the JPOCA agreement aimed at preventing Iran developing nuclear weapons.
Tehran was also furious at the assassination by US drone strike of Revolutionary Guards commander Qassem Soleimani at the start of last year, and more recently of nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, on which it has blamed Israel.
Mr Trump has clashed on a number of occasions with Iran’s President, Hassan Rouhani, including firing off one angry, capitalised post which captured worldwide attention.
Mr Rouhani provoked Mr Trump during a speech in which he said: “America should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars.”
Mr Trump responded by threatening “consequences the likes of which few throughout history have suffered before”.
However, given Mr Trump is currently banned from Twitter, he will be unable to respond to Tasnim’s message on this occasion.
Earlier this week it was reported Iran had deployed so-called “suicide drones” via its proxies in Yemen, raising concerns about a possible attack on Israel.
