Liverpool could be forced into a huge transfer decision this summer after Mohamed Sarah threw doubt over his future at the club. Jurgen Klopp will have a number of targets in mind but who are the four best options going into the window?
Liverpool might have to start thinking about replacements for Salah in the transfer window after the Egypt international’s latest comments.
Klopp will be unhappy to hear his top striker throw doubt over his future after he admitted he “did not know” what will happen this summer.
Salah has been integral to the Reds this season, scoring 29 in all competitions – 16 more than Sadio Mane and 23 more than Roberto Firmino.
“No one is talking to me about anything, so I can’t say much about that,” the 28-year-old said when asked about his future.
“No one in the club is talking to me about anything so I do not know.”
So with Salah’s comments in mind, Express Sport take a look at four names who could replace him.
Liverpool fans would absolutely love to see the World Cup winner arrive at Anfield amid his contract troubles with Paris Saint-Germain.
His deal runs out in June 2022 and there has yet to be any constructive talks over a renewal, which could force PSG into selling this summer to avoid losing him for nothing.
And while Real Madrid are the favourites, Mbappe would slot straight into that right-hand flank at Liverpool perfectly.
However, signing the France international could prove too much – even with the funds made by selling Salah.
Largely touted to sign for Manchester United, Liverpool should do all they can to convince Sancho that his future lies at Anfield.
Much like Mbappe, the England international would be an ideal replacement for Salah in the same position.
Borussia Dortmund might have to sell the 21-year-old this summer due to the fact that they are likely to miss out on the Champions League and may have to cut their asking price of £109m.
That would be ideal for Liverpool, who are masters at negotiation.
Despite their young ages, Mbappe and Sancho are established players in the European football world – so why not go for another who is even younger with similar potential?
Barcelona ace Fati has bundles of talent after exploding onto the scene last season and a cruel injury has put the brakes on his development this year.
The Nou Camp outfit have huge money troubles at the moment and are desperate to keep Lionel Messi, so putting in a tempting offer could be a masterstroke from Liverpool.
At just 18, Fati has a huge career ahead of him but a €400m release clause could prove problematic.
Klopp could turn around and tell Salah leave and pocket the cash, knowing full well that the Reds have a hot prospect of their own.
Liverpool coaches have been wowed by Elliott since his arrival from Fulham in 2019 and has spent the season on loan at Blackburn in the Championship.
And, still just 18, the forward has been in brilliant form, registering six goals and 12 assists in all competitions this year.
The money made from a Salah sale could go to other areas of the squad instead, with a defender and midfielder needed this summer.
