Harry worried about ‘icy’ public reaction as the Duke moves to cancel Diana statue trip

Prince Harry has been put off from returning to the UK this summer for the unveiling of a statue in honour of his late mother Princess Diana. The Duke of Sussex was expected back for the ceremony which is slated to take place on 1st July on what would have been Diana’s 60th birthday. However, the royal is fearful of the reaction he may receive from the British public, according to a leading royal expert.

TalkRADIO host Patrick Christys said: “They were going to unveil this statue in honour of Princess Diana on July 1st at Kensington Palace, but apparently now Harry is not going to come back for that.”

Lady Colin Campbell, a prominent royal author, said: “I suspect he may well not come back.

“He knows that if he comes back he will be met with a wall of ice, not only by the family but by everybody connected to the family and the British public.

“It would be a wise move on his part if he did not come back for it, but it would be an even wiser move he came back and displayed some element of regret for his behaviour.”

This comes amid suggestions that Harry “regrets” the Oprah Winfrey interview.

Lady Colin told talkRADIO: “Harry has got himself in a real muddle, a real mess.

“Harry did not expect Meghan to say some of the things she said and did.

“It has caused huge problems within the Royal Family, the British public and the Commonwealth.”

Another royal expert, Phil Dampier, said he believes Harry is unlikely to travel without wife Meghan, who is expecting the couple’s second child.

Harry spoke openly about his rift with his older brother William during his chat with Oprah.

He said their relationship needs “space” at the moment, before claiming his family are “trapped” by their royal duties.

Harry briefly reunited with his family for the first time in over a year last month, for Prince Philip’s funeral.
