New Jersey Governor Visits City Where 4 Died From Storm
Gov. Philip D. Murphy of New Jersey on Saturday toured Elizabeth, N.J., where four people died when floodwater from the remnants of Hurricane Ida trapped them in an apartment complex. At least 25 people in the state were killed as a result of the storm.
“The water rose very, very quickly and this area flooded. Like I said, it hasn’t flooded in 50 years, so to expect it to rise 10 feet above the top of that river was not —” “Was not in the cards.” “No, was not in the cards.” “I mean, four losses of life out of the 25 that were lost in the state. We’re missing at least six persons, and I say at least because it could be more. And the longer the clock runs, the less likely we’re going to see them. So please keep them in your prayers.
